The Katgoyle Chronicles:
Chapter 1, Wandering
Welcome to the day. Just as every other day this was to be no different. Life was easy and relaxed in the castle…in fact life on the world of Jinnorra was nothing more then peace it’s self.
Kenza continued to walk the halls of the castle in search…of someone, anyone. How could she live in a castle with so many occupants and never see anyone? Boredom set in and she headed to the members hall and into her room. She still could not understand where everyone was but she didn’t let it get to her, she just cranked up some tunes…grabbed a book and began to read; until the female eyed the duct tape sitting on her shelf…she grinned.
Down the hall not to far from Kenza’s room was the newest addition to the member’s hall. The name on the door was marked “Tyshya”.
Inside, Tyshya sat in her lonely room; softly on her empty and seemingly untouched bed. She had only been on this world a few days but, this was no different from any of the other places she had been in her life; it was all empty…all alone. She looked around her room finally fixing her eyes on her songbird flute; she took it from her desk. For a moment it seemed, she was brought comfort and warmth…but just as quickly as the sensation came, it was gone again and she sat alone in her room again.
The girl stood and placed the flute back to the desk where it sat ever since she first got here. Her tail wrapped around her leg and she folded her wings close beside her as she sat down on the tapestry covered floor, hugging her knees and shutting her eyes; the memories of her life flow through her mind.
Hours had gone by and Kenza could not come up with anything to do…she just sat in her bed and played with the role of duct tape staring off into nowhere…until
“hmm…duct tape…NEWBIE!!” she jumped from her bed with the duct tape clasped in her fist and she ran out of the room headed towards the newbie’s room.
Tyshya is awoken with images of her brother still fresh in her mind; there is another pounding on the door and Tyshya wipes the tears off her face as she slowly gets up to get the door, wondering what the others in her new home where up to. Another pounding on her door and Tyshya realizes what had woke her up in the first place.
She frowns, “Who is it and what do you want?”
Kenza stood outside the door not really knowing what to say, “uhh..guess who! I’m just visiting, wandering around with nothing better to do. Seeing what’s up, getting to know people, threatening people with duct tape, ya know, the usual! Well…then again, you may not know cause you’re a newbie here...hehe, unless you don’t want to be then I can say your not.” Kenza stopped as she began to realize she was making less and less sense as she went on.
Tyshya let a small smile appear on her face…then quickly hid it as she opened the door, “I don’t care. Call me what you wish.” She said roughly.
It was dark in Tyshya’s room, the window hid the bright day outside as flames from the few candles lit only faint features on Tyshya’s body…but one thing did catch Kenza’s eye, the flute on the desk. “No, it doesn’t matter what I call you cause I’m only joking. I was just visiting cause I couldn’t find the others.” She was still staring at the flute, “Cool, I like flutes, one of my favorite instruments but I don’t know how to play anything.” She smiled trying to lighten the mood a bit, “I have my own but it just kind of sits there and does nothing…do you play?”
Tyshya eyed the flute that was sitting on the desk and nodded, “yes I play, many different kinds of flutes.”
The flute seemed to glow in the light of the candle that sat beside it. Kenza was really intrigued now, “want to play it? What I mean is…it would be nice to hear something different. Unless you don’t want to then that’s fine…does it have a sentimental value to you? Where’s it from? Oh, and if I get annoying you can just tell me to leave you alone and I’ll be quiet unless you want to talk.”
Tyshya just blinked, she felt as if she where being drilled, “I usually don’t play my flute for anyone.” She looked to Kenza…how could she…be so ‘happy’? “But I suppose I could give you a taste.”
Tyshya walked over and picked up the flute, the flames of the candle flared a bit. This was very strange for her, she never opened up to anyone before…it must have been the innocent happiness that vibrated off the clan leader Kenza, “Flutes as well as other material things have some sentimental value, but this particular one means a great deal to me.” Tyshya holds back the rush of memorys in her mind again as she wondered why she told Kenza so much.
“Yey!” Kenza almost giggled, “I feel privileged, thank you.” She opened her mouth to ask about the history of the flute and why its so special…but stops herself. “maybe some other time, once Tyshya’s more comfortable around here, she did get here a little while ago after all.” She thought to herself. “Well…you look a little uptight, relax! Everyone’s friends here, its okay to let your guard down sometimes…but anyways I’ll be quiet and let you play now.”
Tyshya just shrugged, “You have to do a lot to earn my trust.” She set the flute to her lips and began to play a soft yet deeply haunting melody.
Down the hall in another room sat an…angelic looking man in white robes. The man sat in deep meditation. His eyes opened and the man stood up as if hunted by a memory. His ears rang as the tone of a flute playing a sweet melody echoed around his room. He turned to the door of his room and waved his hand…in an instant a white light appeared and it expanded into a magical portal…the man walked through it and dissappeard.
Back in her room Tyshya continued to play for Kenza…the melody magical as it deepened the atmosphere in the room.
“What is that…wonderful melody that you’re playing?”
Tyshya doesn’t open her eyes to see who had spoken. She sensed that it was indeed a male so she keeps her eyes shut and plays the song to its completion. Saying nothing she puts the flute back on the desk and sits down…looking at her feet. Her wings tightened behind her back and her tail almost strangled her leg.
Tyshya, after a few uneasy moments glanced up to the man in white robes sitting on her bed, her eyes cold and harsh; not welcoming, not inviting, not emotional.
The man’s angle-like wings fluttered a bit then vanished…he began to sense hostility in the air, the man stood up and took a slightly defensive stance.
“I am sorry young one, I did not mean to intrude…I was…what I mean is…I felt your song in my room and…wanted to know who’s music it was.”
As this was going on, Kenza was less then amused as she glared at the man as well, “You know this is someone’s room now! Tyshya moved in just a little while ago. You should knock before you enter!” Kenza composed herself then looked back to Tyshya, “That was great! I would love to hear more sometime when you feel like playing again.” She smiled and noticed Tyshya still blankly looking at the male figure standing in her room, “o! And Tyshya, this is Kai…Kai this is Tyshya. There, now everybody knows each other now.” She turns her attention back to the man, “Next time knock first, must make the newbie’s feel comfortable here.”
Kai just smiled and raised his hand over his head. There was what seemed like a gust of wind then he lowered his hand again, “sorry Kenz, sometimes I get ahead of myself, I didn’t think anyone was actually staying in this room yet. O, and I just but up a little barrier…I won’t be popping into member rooms anymore.” He turns his attention back to Tyshya and bows his head in respect. “I apologize, I do wish to become friends. I’ll come visit you sometime.” Kai then looks to the door, “I hate doors.” He walks out the door and enters a portal…then he is gone.
Tyshya’s eyes glowed for a second; at least she didn’t have to answer his question. She wasn’t about to anyway. She looked to Kenza again, her stance strong and intimidating, like that of a great warrior’s. Her tail hung freely behind her and her wings seemed to relax; she waited.
There was a knock on the door, but it wasn’t a normal knock. It was happy. Now, there wasn’t much to a knock but both Kenza and Tyshya knew that this was indeed a very happy knock. Tyshya walked over to the door and opened it slowly not saying a word. It was a very funny looking man…he was short and wore long robes that where way too big for his body, he smiled and looked at Kenza.
“Heyhey Kenz! I’ve finally made it! Jeeze, you wouldn’t believe how hard this place is to find, and the directions where no help really.” He smiled again, “well, tell yeah what, I’m gonna take a look around if you don’t mind!” The odd little man runs down the hall then jumps toward and open portal…only to miss it by a foot. “Jeeze! I really gotta work on that!” He then picks himself up and carries himself through the portal.
Tyshya narrowed her eyes slightly as she shut the door. She was going to say something…but it was lost in her own thoughts as she tried to figure out what just happened. She just sat on her dusty bed.
Kenza just blinked, “uhh…ok, sorry about that; guess its getting kind of busy around here.” She said slowly still trying to figure out who that little man was.
